What will you normally do when comes to weekend? Some will go for window shopping, some will housekeeping, some will take this time to run errands, some will do whatever they like to do.
Well, as for me, I was busy going after a drama call ‘The Silver Chamber of Sorrows (銀樓金粉). From one episode leads to another, and it’s not fun to follow thru like that. But what to do, I’ve started the 1st episode without realizing it that I have hooked on it.
This series is about a filthy rich bread winner that has 4 wives, and it’s about the feudalism (封建制度) in those days.
I truly pity those women that born on those days, basically woman have no right to voice out their concern; woman has no position in helping the family business, daughters got to listen to parents whom to marry with. Apart from women’s right, men are the king of the family.
They implemented their ways of punishment or rather family disciplines (家法). They have the right to implement the procedure when one did not obey the family law, or conduct adultery. And one of the procedures is to keep the adultery couple in the pig cage (浸豬籠), and soak this couple in the river.
The men will have all says if their wives can’t deliver a son for the family, then they will marry the 2nd wife, 3rd wife or 4th. Reason given is to expand the family tree. If one of the wife accidentally hurt the other who is not expecting. The husband will carry out the family disciplinary action, which would be a thick big cane to cane the wife.
All these ain’t strange to any one of us. Cuz, this do happen in our real world too, though they kept saying feudalism do not happen in their family.
When I start watching the series, to all the women in the series is already a tragedy victim (悲劇受害者). Whether they are the 1st or 2nd wife, or even the daughter or son, they were all the feudalism victims.

we shld b lucky enuff to live in society where women are acccepted as a leader or a multi-tasker. :)
I watched the similar series but on the older generation. It's regarding a family who manufacture cosmetics. Women have no rights, but the worse is they gossip and "perry" each other. No peaceful life.
